the key to happiness?
The other day, Audrey made off with a little jar of honey butter. She was so happy to have accomplished such a feat as taking food away from Dad that she began to dance. Her dancing lead to my diddy, "I'm so happy! I have butter!" Caitlin then interrupted in a melancholy manner, "I'm so sad I don't have any butter."
Today we went to hallZOOween to trick-or-treat and see the animals play with the pumpkins. Costumes were packed- Caitlin as Snow White and Audrey as a lion. Upon arrival Caitlin decided she wanted to be a lion instead. So Caitlin was a lion with capri lenght costume and Audrey wore a size 4 Snow White dress. Very few pieces of candy actually ended up in the bag and all were consumed before leaving the parking lot. We did get some chapstick and we have been needing that.
I ripped up the carpeting from the stairs and exposed some oak florring! Woohoo! It will take a lot of work to remove carpet tacks and staples from 3 different carpet installations and then comes the sanding and sealing but it should look nice again. This was all prompted by a Caitlin home decorating session and a little bit of blood and tears on my part.
The other day, during nap time... Caitlin took a contraband crayon and colored all over her walls, the carpet, and some of Audge's walls as well (Can you believe her room used to be silver? Like everything silver-dark metallic silver. GROSS.) After much scrubbing the crayon and a lot of paint was removed from the walls, the carpet did not fair so well. So in frustration and hoping for something good, I pried up a corner of carpet in Audrey's room and found wood. Hmm... if there is wood in here... yep! there is wood in Caitlin's room, our room, the office, play room, stair way and more.
Since we moved in I have cut my heal on carpet tacks like 5 billion times- some to the point of tears all to the point of blood. At times my hypochondriac self feels lock-jaw setting in. So today I cut my heal again and I knew there was something better beyond those tacks- out come the scissors, utility knife, pry bar, hammer, and pliers... Adios carpet!
If I ever post pictures again I owe you one of the stairs and the bathroom (yes, the one from last years DIY).

emily you are so funny! This week I have been worried about you stepping on any staples and laughed as I thought of you ripping up carpet with a vengence. I am thrilled that you found hard wood throughout! I hope that your this old house dreams are coming true.
