Our independent Independence Day

I was flipping through some friends blogs and noticed something... EVERYONE talked about what they did on the 4th of July. The Parotti's talked about a trip to the zoo and Michael walking, the Truman's talked about the stadium of fire and Lucy's sparkler burnt finger, Spencer reviewed past fourths, etc., etc., etc. I have no such blog posted. Wow, how unpatriotic of me. I really did do stuff to commemorate the day, as did David, and so did my little Caitlin. I just kind of wish holidays and weekends and days off accumulated until the David Burgstrom family was together again- I always miss them most when I am not tied to my desk working away.
Caitlin's 4th (as related to me by my mom): Caitlin woke up, had bagels with the Michigan section of the Johansson's (which is A LOT of people!), and then climbed into the bike trailer and off they went to the Clawson Parade. This is a long standing tradition in our family. Caitlin LOVED the parade and collected an assortment of yummy suckers (most of which she saved... yeah, I couldn't believe it either- little sugar fiend). After the parade they went back to mom and dad's for a bar-b-que and pool time. This tradition has been standing as long as the pool has. After eating and swimming, the family ate even more. Caitlin took a big nap after eating and then woke up for a few fireworks in the cul-de-sac. And then her 4th was over.
David started celebrating a day early with fireworks in Mason, Ohio. Then on the 4th he went down to Cincinnati to see the fireworks over the river. He described a gorgeous park but was unimpressed by the city's display, it was too far away and the BOOM did not shake him. He spent the majority of his time watching the amateurs set off what seemed like thousands of fireworks. Their show started before the main event and ended long after. He was impressed due to the sheer volume of fireworks and how close to the action he was. Overall he had an enjoyable time.
My 4th of July- good thing I had family to keep me going or this could have been a lame holiday. Thank you Nola and Tyler for trying to keep me busy and incorporated into a family! We (gosh- there I go saying "we" again!) started the day out with lunch at IHOP. I thought it would be ALL breakfast food but I was pleasantly surprised by a wonderful bacon and avocado burger- warm meat and cold toppings usually impress me. the taste was pretty good too. After lunch everyone came to Hinckley, I scurried to procure a table and chairs while they walked slowly to humor me. We had huge Costco cup cakes and visited for a while. Everyone headed out about 3:30ish. Then I made another tu-tu for Caitlin and relaxed for a bit. I had dinner at the Cannon and ran into Nola and Tyler. Since they were homeless, (the building was in the firework fall out zone and was evacuated ayt 6:00) I invited them to my apartment. they did some family things, fed Ty and then went to the live show. (A perk of being forcibly evacuated- you get free show tickets.) Aunt Vicky and Burns arrived shortly before the Birds left and then we went over to stake out a spot for the show. Being in the cheap (FREE) seats, we did not get to see Miley Cyrus but we did get to see the beautiful fireworks. At about 11:00 I went home and got a call from David. He's pretty great about calling and talking to me each night. Well, that is about it. The Burgstroms celebrated Independance Day independent of each other
